Mums and aunties would arrive with plastic containers of homemade fried rice, bee hoon, and mountains of fish ball, crabsticks, and hotdogs bought in bulk from the nearest markets. The barbecue itself focused on staples: heavily marinated chicken wings, otak-otak wrapped in coconut leaves, and sweet corn coated with butter. Everything was served on flimsy paper plates paired with plastic utensils. 

The modern chalet palate has become significantly more sophisticated, pivoting toward "premium" culinary experiences. While classics like chicken wings and fish ball are still beloved, modern chalet hosts routinely level up their menus by ordering pre-marinated gourmet selections such as ribeye steaks, rosemary lamb chops, and fresh seafood like tiger prawns and half-shell scallops. For hosts who want to join in on the fun, some will completely bypass the cooking hassle by hiring a private BBQ chef or an external live-station catering service to handle the grill professionally. The kitchen tables are just as likely to feature artisanal grazing platters or last-minute food delivery bulk purchases.

 Since booking a chalet required physical forms, ballot systems, or queuing up early at clubhouses, stays were rarely casual. Chalet trips were meticulously planned months in advance and almost exclusively reserved for major life gatherings. People booked CSC chalets to mark significant, defined milestones: formal 21st birthday parties, massive graduation get-togethers for secondary school cohorts, or annual department-wide corporate bonding days. The itinerary was rigid, the guest list was massive, and every attendee knew exactly what milestone they were there to toast.

Though the aesthetic and technology have completely shifted over the past decades, the core spirit of the CSC chalets remains remarkably unchanged: they are still Singapore's favourite "home away from home" for bringing people together.
