Many travel to Johor Bahru during the weekend for a quick getaway, whether it’s for a hearty Malaysian breakfast or to relax their nerves over a well-deserved spa trip. From 7 to 8 February 2026, CSC’s Cycling and Adventure made a trip down to Kukup, a serene fishing village in the south of Johor.

The ride to Kukup was just one of the club's several trips abroad, which provide members the opportunity to travel scenic paths, challenge themselves, and create lasting connections through a shared experience. Two members, Agnes Ng and Marc, first-timers to Kukup, shared their thoughts and memories of the short yet fulfilling trip.

The 50 km ride began at Woodlands Checkpoint, where the members faced their first challenge – getting through the motorcycle lane on a bicycle amongst the countless vehicles crossing the border. Although some members were assigned as route marshals, veteran riders who were faster and more familiar with the route were assigned as route marshals, making sure no member was left behind. “Our team leader, Benz and sweeper, Poh Leong, guided us well and took care of our well-being, ensuring our safety throughout the ride,” mentioned Marc, “It was truly a fun-filled ride mixed with thrill and trepidation as we cycled along the roads and highways to Kukup.”

Kukup has become one of the group’s favourite weekend getaways - members get to ride leisurely while enjoying the panoramic views of Johor. “With the scenery of the countryside accompanying us throughout the ride, which was peaceful.” Says Agnes, who was excited to see what Kukup had in store.

Setting the vibes for a truly relaxed trip, the group planned a free-and-easy trip where members relaxed at their own pace and met up for meals. Some were enticed to explore the environment - a blend of houses and resorts on wooden stilts and modern, concrete buildings. Along with a few more members, they rediscovered the origins of Kukup, a kampung within the mangrove forest, now a relaxation hotspot for those looking for a chill destination.

For those who preferred staying indoors, they used the time to rest and recharge through different activities. From belting out pop songs on the karaoke machine to friendly matches of table tennis and mahjong, every member was occupied in their own way. “The accommodation we stayed in was like an all-in-one resort, which provided us with many activities to indulge in. The organising committee, particularly Jasmine, also took time to organise some team bonding games in the evening for us to get to know one another better and have a good time together.” Marc mentions.

The members also looked forward to convening during mealtimes, where they continued to forge stronger bonds with other members over good food. “Since Kukup is a fishing village, we had seafood for almost every meal. Every dish was sumptuous.” Said Agnes.

The excursion to Kukup marked CSC’s Cycling and Adventure Group’s first overseas ride for the year. A short yet fulfilling trip, the time was well spent with new and old friends catching up at one of Johor’s hidden gems. “I treasure the camaraderie amongst everyone, where we bonded and shared new and old friendships.” Agnes reflected on the trip. “I always look forward to more future trips to come.”

For Marc, the ride was fulfilling thanks to the company. “The group was filled with energy as most participants are veterans who have known each other and have been cycling for years. The most rewarding part of completing the ride is definitely the company; the ties between members and being amongst these veteran cyclists who share not just a common interest in cycling but also in many aspects of life.”
