Despite the monsoon rains, festive cheer was in full swing at CSC’s Lunar New Year Bazaar on 11 January 2025 at The Diamond Ballroom, CSC @ Tessensohn. The festive marketplace offered CSC members and their families the perfect opportunity to stock up on New Year goodies, with everything from snacks and gifts to brand-new outfits for the celebrations.
Visitors also eagerly explored the other vibrant offerings. From bespoke soaps made with organic ingredients and crystal jewellery promising love and wealth to Labubu collectibles and indulgent treats like bak kwa and otah-otah, there was something for everyone.

Unique finds at the Lunar New Year Bazaar included a selection of Rubik’s cubes in various designs.

For many, Lunar New Year is not only about shopping — it’s a cherished time to gather with loved ones and enjoy delicious food. Ms Aileen Koh, founder of Ambrosia Delights Bakery, shared how the festival is especially meaningful for her multicultural family – Ms Koh is a Peranakan Chinese, while her American husband is of Hungarian and French descent.

Ms Aileen Koh, founder of Ambrosia Delights Bakery, participated in the Lunar New Year Bazaar with her daughter to showcase and sell her delicious baked goodies.
“We are very family-oriented, so we really love our reunion dinners with our parents and grandparents. My three teenage kids hang out with their cousins, and of course, we bring our baked goods to share with everyone,” she said.
Drawing from this rich blend of cultures and inspired by Ms Koh’s treasured family recipes, Ambrosia Delights Bakery offers signature treats like sugee cakes (a traditional Eurasian dessert), golf ball-sized pineapple tarts and banana bread

Another highlight of the Lunar New Year Bazaar was the Chinese horoscope displays, where visitors could learn about their zodiac fortunes for 2025. Among them was Mr Christian Danial, a clubhouse executive at CSC @ Tessensohn, who brought his mother along to enjoy the festivities.
“I was born in the Year of the Horse, and my horoscope says there may be a promotion at work this year!” he said with a laugh, clearly thrilled by the prediction. “My health is also good, and my love life isn’t bad either,” he added.

For Mr Danial, the bazaar was also a chance to reflect on and learn about important values. “The Chinese are prudent with their finances, and this is a good habit to adopt. For instance, if financial troubles are predicted for a particular zodiac sign this year, affected individuals are advised to save and avoid unnecessary risks — which is practical advice for anyone,” he shared.
While some families immerse themselves in traditional Lunar New Year activities, others use the time to unwind. Mr James Murugian, who was spotted with his young daughter at the sensory play booth, shared that his wife is Chinese, but it’s not a yearly practice for them to celebrate Lunar New Year. “Instead, we use the long holiday to relax and take it easy,” said the former Public Service Officer and CSC member, who now works in the private sector.

Born in the Year of the Dragon, Mr Murugian wishes that 2025 will be filled with health, happiness and career growth. “Even if the year isn’t smooth, I hope that we have the resilience to handle life’s challenges,” he added.
