Lunar New Year is all about reunions, traditions and celebrating new beginnings with loved ones. On 4 February 2025, over 400 guests came together at the Diamond Ballroom, CSC @ Tessensohn, for the highly anticipated CSC Lunar New Year Lohei Dinner. From festive feasting to lively entertainment, the evening was a joyful blend of tradition and camaraderie, setting the stage for a prosperous Year of the Snake.

A festive arrival in style

Guests arrived dressed to impress, many in elegant red and pink cheongsams as well as vibrant batik outfits, adding a festive splash of colour. Many stopped to snap photos with the adorable inflatable Prosperity God statue — because what’s Lunar New Year without some good fortune?

Before dinner officially began, early birds enjoyed a variety of traditional Chinese games, personalised calligraphy keepsakes and even a free five-minute massage — the perfect prelude to an evening of feasting, games and dancing.

Festive tunes and lively moves

Emcee Angelina Lek kicked off the celebrations with a rousing medley of Lunar New Year classics, including Gong Xi Gong Xi and Cai Shen Dao (The God of Fortune Arrives). Guests cheered as she took to the stage for a graceful traditional umbrella dance, before hyping up the crowd with a series of interactive games.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a celebration without some retro Chinese hits! As the music played, guests hit the dance floor, showing off their best moves to classic oldies like Tian Mi Mi and Ye Lai Xiang.

The energetic lion dance performance dazzled guests as it heralded good fortune and prosperity for the Year of the Snake.

Reuniting, reminiscing and celebrating together

A spectacular lion dance performance paved the way for the grand entrance of the Prosperity God and Laughing Buddha mascots — icons of luck and abundance. The energy soared as guests picked up their chopsticks for the main event: the Lohei toss! With chopsticks in hand, they enthusiastically lifted their yu sheng high, shouting “Huat ah!” as they wished for prosperity, health and happiness in 2025.

For many, the CSC Lunar New Year Lohei Dinner was more than just a meal — it was a chance to reconnect with old friends and new acquaintances. "It was so nice to see everyone. We hugged and greeted each other ‘Happy New Year’,” said Ms Anna Ching, who is part of the Silver Hairs Club, a social group for seniors over 50. "We came to spend time with our friends and join in the fun. Events like this keep us active and social in our retirement years.”

Ms Ching’s friend, Ms Molly Han, agreed, adding that this year’s celebrations felt extra special. "We are truly in the post-COVID era — everyone is relaxed and having so much fun," she said. Ms Han also cherishes the time spent with her large extended family during Lunar New Year. "Seeing children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all under one roof is the highlight of the season for me."

Laughter  and good cheer filled the ballroom as guests enjoyed a night of festive feasting, entertainment, and camaraderie.

A feast for the senses

Guests were enthralled by the “Bian Lian” (face-changing) performance, a mesmerising act from Sichuan opera where the performer swaps masks in the blink of an eye. The mystery behind the technique only added to the audience’s amazement.

The ventriloquist and his lively Prosperity God puppet had the audience in stitches with their witty banter and hilarious antics.

The entertainment didn’t stop there. A master puppeteer delivered a hilarious ventriloquist comedy routine, bringing a wacky Prosperity God puppet to life in a playful, banter-filled exchange that had the crowd in stitches.

A celebration not to be missed

For CSC member Ms Rebecca Ho , this was her fifth time attending the CSC Lunar New Year Lohei Dinner — a tradition she eagerly looks forward to each year. “I try to get a table early every year, as they sell out months in advance!" she shared. This time, she invited her ex-colleagues, using the occasion as a rare chance for the group to catch up. "Some of us have moved on to other jobs or departments, so this is a great opportunity to meet up in a central location."

"For the older generation, keeping the tradition alive is important. We come together to celebrate and wish each other a good year ahead," she added. Ms Ho, now retired, also hopes to stay healthy and active well into 2025 and beyond.

Wrapping up with a lucky draw

No Lunar New Year event is complete without a lucky draw, and the grand prize — a Genting Cruise stay — went to Mr Choo Hoot Ming. "The first thing I thought of was bringing my wife along for a well-deserved getaway," he said.

As a first-time attendee of the annual CSC Lunar New Year Lohei Dinner, the Silver Hairs Club member was full of praise for the event. "The food exceeded my expectations, and despite the huge crowd, everything ran smoothly."

Beyond the celebrations, Mr Choo treasures family time the most. "My two daughters are working full-time, so Lunar New Year is when we truly get to bond. I just hope to stay healthy, see my children get married and lead happy lives.,” he shared. “As for me and my wife, we want to live in the moment and take each day as it comes.”

As the night drew to a close, guests left with full hearts, happy memories and wishes for a prosperous Year of the Snake. Here’s to another year of good health, meaningful connections and traditions that bring us together.

Huat ah!
