Family Fun @ Tessensohn, held on 17 August 2024, was an event bursting with activities specially organised for the Civil Service Club (CSC) members and their families. Children enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, from bouncy castles to sand art and canvas painting. The carnival game booths and cookie-decorating stations also offered plenty of fun and creative outlets for the little ones.

Adults weren’t left out either, with retail therapy available at bazaar booths featuring premium honey, tasty snacks, and wellness products. They could also take part in Zumba try-outs or attend an insightful talk on how to craft a meaningful Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). Free ice-cream, popcorn and cotton candy added to the festive atmosphere, ensuring a joyous occasion for the young and young at heart.

Sharing precious moments together at CSC

Family Fun @ Tessensohn was the perfect opportunity for Mr Thiva Ravin  to bond with his young nephew. He and his wife spent the morning creating sand art and canvas painting with the five-year-old boy at the Diamond Ballroom. They also explored the food stalls and watched as the child played at the bouncy castles. "We're always looking for activities that my nephew can take part in," said Mr Ravin. "Sure, we can stay home and play video games, but going out and doing things is a much better way to spend quality time as a family."

As an active member of CSC, Mr Ravin enjoys using the club's swimming pool facilities and participating in fitness classes with his wife. They also frequently attend pet events organised by CSC with their two dogs. Family Fun @ Tessensohn was just another great example of how CSC helps the couple create lasting memories with their loved ones.

Family bonding in full gear
Sporting goggles and  firmly gripping her Nerf blaster, Ms Sherry Tan, along with her husband and two children, were all set for a thrilling battle. It was Ms Tan’s first experience with Nerf — a popular game similar to paintball but with foam darts and no bruises. Teams raced to capture the flag from the centre of the court and bring it back to their base while dodging opponents’ shots. Any player hit by an opponent's dart was out of the round.

For Ms Tan, who has been a CSC member for 10 years, the game was an exhilarating way to bond with her 16-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. "The strategising was the fun part. Team leads would take turns planning how to outsmart our opponents," she shared. “It was a fantastic way to spend time with my kids.”

As a family-oriented person, Ms Tan frequently brings her children to swim at the Tessensohn and Bukit Batok clubhouses. “I appreciate that my CSC membership is open to extended family members as well, so I can take my parents and relatives to enjoy the club’s facilities and events,” she added. “It allows us to spend quality time together.”

The Nerf battle was a thrilling highlight for both children and adults.

A talk with a lasting impact
Retiree Ms Khatijah binte Ahmad brought her spouse along to the Galaxy Ballroom to attend a talk on how to properly set up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). “I wanted my husband to listen and appreciate the importance of preparing a LPA,” she shared. LPA is a legal document that allows a person to appoint one or more people to make decisions and act on their behalf if they lose mental capacity in the future. This can cover decisions related to personal welfare, healthcare, and property and financial matters. The lawyer who conducted the session presented the serious topic in a light-hearted and easy-to-understand manner for the predominantly senior audience. Ms Khatijah binte Ahmad and her husband appreciated the insightful LPA talk.

With the basics now clear, Ms Khatijah looks forward to drafting an LPA with her husband.

Her favourite  part of being a CSC member? Planning get-togethers and staycations at CSC @ Changi’s beachfront chalets. “I also used to regularly join events like CSC Members’ Day, as well as art and craft workshops and talks. But now that I’m retired, I’m spending more time traveling and enjoying quality moments with my family and friends,” said the longtime member. Nevertheless, she makes it a point to attend CSC events whenever she can.

 Poolside memories and new beginnings
Over at the Olympic-sized swimming pool, CSC member Mr Alexander Lee was spotted with an old friend and her three daughters, aged four to 11, who were visiting from London. “I used to bring my children to the pool on weekends when they were younger. They loved playing with the inflatables, paddle boats and slides,” said Mr Lee. “That’s why I invited my friend and her daughters over so they could have fun and cool off from the heat.”

New CSC member Mr Ng Kian Tiong and his son were also enjoying the children’s wading pool. Joined by his wife and mother-in-law, they ended their busy morning with a relaxing time by the water. Mr Ng, who recently signed up for a five-year membership at the Public Service Sports & Family Day, also managed to attend the LPA talk, while his son was preoccupied with bouncy castles, sand art and canvas painting.

Mr Ng shared that he joined CSC to give his four-year-old son the chance to play, make friends and build fond childhood memories. “It’s only after I signed up that I realised how packed the CSC events calendar actually is,” he said. “I’m looking into different workshops and classes for my son, like taekwondo and robotics.”

Ms Zhang Bo, a family friend invited by Mr Ng to attend the event, was so impressed with the CSC @ Tessensohn’s facilities and diverse range of activities that she decided to sign up for a five-year membership herself. “There is a lot for children to do,” said the mother of a four-year-old girl. “I plan to check out the gym and bowling alley, and hopefully make some new friends among the Public Service Officers and CSC members.”
