CSC @ Changi’s seafront chalets have long been a go-to destination for those seeking a respite from the fast-paced city lifestyle. Now, with the launch of House of Melissa Evelin (HOME), chalet guests can look forward to more enriching activities inspired by nature.

This unique concept — born out of a collaboration between CSC @ Changi and The Sundowner — offers a diverse range of activities and workshops aimed at fostering a deeper connection with the environment. Led by proficient guides from The Sundowner, the activities are open to both CSC @ Changi’s guests and the public. They are also child-friendly, welcoming kids aged four and above to join in the fun.

Founded by Mr Clarence Chua, The Sundowner is renowned for its award-winning Rooftop Farm Experience, which clinched the Outstanding Tour Experience Award at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2024. As a former landscaper with a lifelong passion for the outdoors, Mr Chua saw CSC @ Changi as the ideal location for expanding his experiential venture.

The activities at HOME are centred around Chalet F, a sprawling 3,000-square-foot colonial-style property that seamlessly blends history with eco-adventure. This sanctuary encourages guests to explore, create and reconnect with nature in meaningful ways.

Here are 5 delightful reasons to visitwhy HOME should be your next staycation destinationand experience its unique activities:

1. Get up close with Singapore’s native bees

Visitors, including children, can suit up in bee suits and immerse themselves in the fascinating world of beekeeping under the expert guidance of Mr Chua, who is one of Singapore’s few beekeepers. This safe and educational activity offers more than just a hands-on experience; it also highlights the critical role bees play in sustaining healthy ecosystems. With the right techniques, you’ll learn how to handle these vital pollinators without the fear of getting stung.

To provide the bees with a more suitable habitat, Mr Chua relocated several colonies from The Sundowner’s Siglap rooftop garden to HOME. “At Siglap, there were simply not enough flowers for the bees to thrive. They are much happier here,” he shares.

Bees aren’t the only six-legged residents at HOME. The property also features two ant tanks, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into how these insects collaborate to build and sustain their colonies.

2. Explore sustainable farming

At the heart of HOME is its permaculture garden, a sustainable setup designed to function like a natural ecosystem. The garden features a vegetable and herb patch, and aquatic habitats that attract dragonflies. These elements work together in harmony, showing how different parts of nature can support one another.

“Unlike commercial farms that often rely on chemicals, we work with nature to create a closed-loop system,” explains Mr Chua. In this system, compost enrich the soil, promoting healthy plant growth. Meanwhile, the dragonflies help control mosquito populations without relying on synthetic insecticides.

Through guided tours, visitors can observe this intricate ecosystem in action and learn how sustainable farming practices can be adapted for urban environments.

3. Master the art of woodfire pizza making

Skip the usual takeout — at HOME, you’ll learn how to create a delicious woodfire pizza entirely from scratch. This family-friendly activity guides you through each step, from harvesting fresh herbs straight from the garden to preparing your own dough and firing up the pizza in a traditional woodfire oven.

The Sundowner team will provide all the necessary ingredients and offer expert guidance throughout the process. Thanks to the intense heat of a 400°C woodfire oven, your pizza will emerge perfectly crisp with a signature smoky flavour. It’s more than just a meal — it’s a hands-on culinary experience you won’t forget.

4. Discover the health benefits of fermented foods

Fermented foods like kombucha have become increasingly popular for improving gut health and digestion. At HOME, you can dive into the world of fermentation by joining an interactive kombucha-making workshop.

You’ll learn how to craft and flavour your own brew, with the added bonus of taking home a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast) to continue fermenting at home. It’s a fun and engaging way to boost your well-being while exploring the science and art behind these health-boosting foods.

5. Experience authentic farm-to-table dining

For those who want to connect more deeply with their food, HOME offers an immersive farm-to-table dining journey. Available upon request, this activity invites guests to catch live crabs or fish, shuck fresh oysters, and forage for herbs and vegetables straight from the garden.

“This experience helps us slow down and appreciate the hard work that goes into every meal,” says Mr Chua. It’s a rewarding way to end the day, allowing you to savour a meal that’s as fresh and sustainable as it gets.
